Twitter Has 145 Million Registered Users (And 16% Of Them Now Start On A Mobile Handset),
according to the official Twitter blog.

It is interesting to see in the following Twitter chart the top 10 most popular ways unique Twitter profiles use to access the service in the last 30 days. This is based on number of unique users. That is, out of all the people who logged into their Twitter account during the month, what percentage did so via each service. (The total is more than 100% because people often use more than one app.)

Top 10 Twitter Apps by Unique Users
1. 78% - twitter.com
2. 14% - m.twitter.com
3. 8% - SMS
4. 8% - Twitter for iPhone
5. 8% - Twitter for Blackberry
6. 4% - TwitPic
7. 3% - TweetDeck
8. 3% - Echofon
9. 2% - Google Friend Connect
10. 2% - UberTwitter

The following chart shows the top ten applications people have used to access Twitter in the last 30 days. This is based on number of unique users. That is, out of all the people who logged into their Twitter account during the month, what percentage did so via each service. (The total is more than 100% because people often use more than one app.)

The main Twitter.com website is still the most popular method, followed by the mobile web browser version of the Twitter site, m.twitter.com.

I have been using Twitter for Blackberry for a while. This application is designed specifically for a Blackberry format. It is very easy and intuitive to use, especially considering the small screen. In many ways, it is actually easier to interact with than the main Twitter site.

As well, Twitter for iPad which recently launched. For this reason, it wouldn't have made the Top 10 list yet. I just gave the Twitter for iPad a try recently. Again, it has a different user interface than the main Twitter site, and is quite slick and easy to use.

For the iPhone, apparently there was a plethora of third-party Twitter apps, but people were having trouble finding and selecting one because none were called “Twitter.” This kept them from using Twitter at all. For this reason, Twitter recently acquired Tweetie and turned it into Twitter for iPhone. It is interesting to see that Twitter For iPhone already has almost three times TweetDeck’s share – including TweetDeck for iPhone.

Anyone that has managed a sports league or club with multiple teams knows the challenge of keeping hundreds of people on many teams coordinated.

With many of the sports clubs run by volunteers, it can be even more of a challenge. With a lot of the info going around by email, it is hard to keep coordinated.

Using Synergy Connect community building social media web solution works well for groups such as sports teams and leagues.
This member communication solution can be added to any existing website.

Set up member categories for athletes, coaches, managers, referees, parents and fans.

Set up each team as a Group for communication. Groups can be private or public. The team manager can approve who are the team members in the group - including athletes, parents and coaches on a team.

You can also set up private discussion Groups for Coaches, Executive, Referrees, etc.

For games and tournaments, each team can add all their upcoming events, coordinate RSVPs for each upcoming event, send out event reminders, and other announcements.

It is always great fun being easily able to share photos with team mates!

One very interesting example is Vancouver Water Polo Club. Water polo is a great sport, but not well known. This clubs has teams for kids to play water polo in various age groups from age 6 and up.

For them, they needed a site they could easily update, and aid in member communication.

Also, like many organizations, they are trying to increase their marketing results. This is a challenge with no marketing budget and no dedicated marketing person. The Synergy Connect social networking site really helps in marketing the group.

Key is to be found at the top of the search engines, such as Google, when people are searching for the sport in your area.

For Search Engine Optimization, key factors include:
- the amount of relevant content,
- how often the site is updated, and
- number of links to your site.

For this group, key words they wanted to be found under were "Water Polo" and "Vancouver".

Within a few months from site creation, this site became # 1 in Google (of about 341,000 results) for Vancouver Water Polo! Exactly what they ideally wanted to achieve.

Key to this success, is a lot more content which mentions the key words that are important for this group to be found in the search engine.

With very photo and announcement that the members add, there is automatically more targetted content for the search engines to find.

Even for a small club, adding Synergy Connect community building social media web solution, helps in both member communication and marketing efforts.

How about your hockey, soccer, baseball, football, swim, basketball or other club? What would you like to achieve for your organization?

On July 18/2010, Nelson Mandela turns 92. What an inspiring person!

"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." Robin Williams from Dead Poet's Society

You have the opportunity to help honor him on his birthday and thank him for nearly a century of life-changing work.

Add your name and photo to the giant birthday card that One.org will be personally delivered to Nelson Mandela. You can easily submit a photo using Facebook or upload your own.

http://www.one.org/us/mandela/

One.org is a wonderful example of the power of using social media to connect people and make a difference. ONE is an international grassroots campaign of more than 2 million people committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable diseases.

When Mandela was born, his father named him Rolihlahla, an Xhosa word affectionately meaning "troublemaker." While the world would later come to know this boy as Nelson—the English name given by his teacher on his first day of school—Mandela has spent a lifetime stirring up an inspiring dose of trouble.
From an early age, Mandela acted boldly for those in need. He battled against apartheid, spending almost 27 years in prison to stand up for what he knew was right. He fought to make sure that every South African was given the honor of a vote, leading the country to its first free and fair election. He turned the tragedy of family death into an opportunity to educate his country about HIV/AIDS. He rallied on behalf of the hungry. He lobbied for equal education. He called for the world to come together and free those trapped in the prison of poverty. He challenged our generation to lead with action, not just words.
He's shown the world what a difference just one troublemaker can make.
Nelson Mandela has devoted his life to serving his community, fighting for his country and speaking out on behalf of the poor. Let's wish him happy birthday and show him our thanks.

As Nelson Mandela said on the eve of his presidential election, "I stand before you humbled by your courage, with a heart full of love." Now it's our turn to stand before him and do the same
